Most Rev. Samir Kafity
Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem and President Bishop of the Episcopal Province of the Middle East
Samir Kafity was parish priest in Jerusalem, Ramallah, Bir Zeit and Beirut.
He was ordained Bishop of the diocese of Jerusalem in 1982. He was the second
Palestinian to serve as Bishop of the Diocese of Jerusalem and the first Palestinian
to be elected President Bishop of the Episcopal Province of the Middle East.
The Diocese of Jerusalem includes Israel, the Palestinian Territories, Lebanon,
Syria and Jordan. The Province of the Middle East includes 22 countries from
the Gulf states to Morocco.
Bishop Kafity was a founding member of the Board of Directors of The Society for Biblical Studies. He was the first person to endorse the vision of S.B.S. and he was an enthusiastic supporter.
